The different ways that family history and genealogy intersect with other aspects of the culture is growing. But I think this project might be a first for family history. Broad Street Magazine, which publishes nonfiction narratives in a variety of genres, has begun a six-week series of feature articles on six poems from my family history […]

Congratulations, Luanne.
Thanks so much, John. So happy with this incredible project Broad Street came up with!
I would be too if I were you.
Wow. How wonderful, Luanne. Congratulations. I’d read this poem before, but I enjoyed reading it again with the extra details. It’s remarkable that she lived. And she was talented, too–to paint that shell.
I’ve started mining family history and history for poetry and CNF. Perhaps you’ve inspired me!
Woohoo! You don’t know how I love hearing that you are doing that, Merril! My best with it.
Thank you so much. I think this Broad Street project is the coolest thing. So glad their wonderful editor Susann Cokal thought it up!
It is way cool! Congratulations again.
I had one short CNF published in Rhythm and Bones about an ancestor of my husband’s who was murdered.
Congrats! Is it online?
Yes! https://www.rhythmnbone.com/single-post/2018/10/15/Pearl
This is really beautiful. So sad, too. So you understand my obsession with stories of the past heh. Do you ever think you’d like to be a detective and solve cases from 100 or more years ago?! Sadly this one doesn’t even need solving. Poor YOUNG girl.
Thank you very much, Luanne. Thanks for reading.
I definitely understand your obsession with the past! (And older daughter has put up a Web site about our artist ancestor. She’s become obsessed with him and his wife.)
I’ve wanted a time machine to talk to–or rather observe because I’m nosy, but kind of shy–all the couples I’ve written about and what was really going on with them and their neighbors. I’m a bit obsessed with Pearl, so I was happy this piece found a home. I do wish I could have gone back to warn her. I don’t have much other info. My husband’s aunt said no one really talked about it.
So cool about your daughter! Wow, is it public? Do you share it? Have you seen any blogs where people hold a virtual dinner party of their “favorite” ancestors? It looks fun!
I think it’s public? https://abrahamhankins.com/ I guess it’s a work in progress. No, I haven’t seen that about the dinner parties. 🙂
Way to go, Luanne!
Thank you so much, Elaine!
Fantastic 😀
Congratulations!
Ciao
Sid
Thank you, Sid. I hope your weekend is a good one!
Excellent – congratulations
Thanks, Derrick!
Luanne, this is so great! Who will write the articles? You? Are the articles going to be mainly about your poems or about the family members as subjects? So interesting!
I am writing them, Carla, although Susann Cokal, the editor, is helping enormously.
