Consider this an invitation to attend a National Poetry Month special event dear to my heart! We are holding a zoom poetry reading honoring the theme this year: THERE’S A POEM IN THIS PLACE. This line is taken from a poem by 2021 Presidential Inaugural Poet and 2017 National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman. Our place is the blogosphere!
The theme for National Poetry Month 2022 is There’s A Poem in This Place. Two places to find contemporary poetry at its most vibrant are in the blogging community and at live readings. On 23 April 2022 from 4-5:30 PM ET, the two places cometogetherwhen a select group of poets from the blogosphere present a live reading of their poetry at Poets in the Blogosphere. Most poetry is meant to be read aloud, and hearing poets read their own work is a heightened experience.The event is moderated by Elizabeth Gauffreau. I totally agree that poetry is better heard than read, at least for me. It really comes to life for me. However, I’ve calculated the presentation time would be 7am for me, which is not a time my head and body are totally connected. But it sounds great fun and I wish you every good thing on the day.

A good time was had by all – how not when both a string quartet *and* a barbershop quartet are on the program? I didn’t pass out, despite feeling I was about to, and folks seemed to like the poems. And the organizers gave me a lovely lavender plant for my garden as a thank-you — that’s a win all around!

Resa, I am almost positive you can only see the reader poets on the screen. There will be a chat feature so you can write thing to the side when people are reading, but I don’t think you will show up. but I am verifying that.
I found out that the meeting will be set to show audience and poets. Audience members will automatically have their cameras off when they enter. They can turn it on or leave it off. So it will be up to you! Thanks, Resa!
