Spring Walk: #TankaTuesday

Colleen at Wordcraft poetry suggested this prompt today: to write a shadorma using 3-5 selected words. Syllable count is 3-5-3-3-7-5. I think I used 8 of the words, but I am writing the poem on my iPad in this post so I can’t go over the word list again.

Spring Walk

This spring month,

not yet hot, cloudy

over rocks

and bushes,

I walk with a book and grapes

and wish spring to last.

I hope you enjoyed that, especially knowing how hot it will get here in Arizona by mid-May. I am lying on my back with this iPad because I am resting my legs. For over ten weeks my right leg has been a monster. Saturday I had an MRI, but I’ve had other tests with no diagnosis or idea of what’s wrong. So why did I write about walking? For one thing, it’s a word on the list. But I can and do like to do light walking with the leg issue. But then I have to rest it. And the leg prefers very limited sitting (at the computer).

Serena Agusto-Cox on Savvy Verse & Wit has written a great review for my Red Riding Hood chapbook Our Wolves: https://savvyverseandwit.com/2023/04/our-wolves-by-luanne-castle.html She argues that the poems are not retellings of Red Riding Hood. Read her review to see what she says they are.

    • It’s going to be cool this week, but then it will go up to 90. But right now, I think it’s so nice. As far as the DX goes, ME TOO! Thanks, Eilene.

  4. I enjoyed your spring poem, Luanne. I hope the docs can figure out what’s going with your leg so that it doesn’t give you any more trouble. Congratulations on Serena’s very insightful review of Our Wolves!

  11. I love the poem! I’m so sorry about your leg. I hope you get a proper diagnosis soon and some relief.

  12. I love walking too, Luanne. Have you tried support hose for your leg? Since I sit so much, I stared wearing the knee-highs and my legs feel so much better. I walk around two+ miles a day on my treadmill. When I lived in Arizona, I was up at 6 am to walk every morning, so I know you must miss it. I hope they find what’s wrong. As we age, we have to try different things to see what works best for us. 💜

  13. This is lovely, Luanne ~ a book and grapes is a wonderful combination!

    Much love,
    David

  14. Hi Luanne, I am so sorry to read about your on-going leg issue. I would have expected the MRI to reveal something. I enjoyed your poem. I didn’t think Wolves was a retelling of Red Riding Hood but rather that Red Riding Hood, a well known children’s story, was a platform for your poetry about life, love, deception, and manipulation.
