Can Always Be Worse Continues

Last week’s title was “It Can Always Be Worse.” Hahaha. Yes, it can! Felix is still isolated for another week, and on Tuesday night Pear Blossom, our oldest cat at 17, got very sick with another UTI and passed a huge (for a tiny cat) blood clot through her urethra. I spent a few hours at the animal ER where they tested and medicated her. Then I came home and slept on the floor of the closet with Felix for 2.5 hours. That is the sort of 2 weeks I’ve had.

Pear got a little worse, but now seems somewhat better. However, the ultrasound at the ER showed she has something weird going on with her bladder, so it’s likely that this huge money suck we’re in the middle of is going to continue.

Mom didn’t bargain for coming to a cat hospital, but that’s what she found here in Arizona. At least she’s here with us.

Spending lots of time with my kitty loves for now. In lieu of a real post, I’ll leave you with this love-ly photo that belongs to my friend Gayle.

Gayle's heart

Please continue thoughts and prayers for Aunt Jean’s comfort and passage.

  1. Sorry to hear you’re going through so much. Tough way to bring in 2017. 🙁

  2. Continuing to send good thoughts your way as well as to your kitties and your aunt. Hang in there, baby.

  3. Oh dear, Luanne! I didn’t think I could “Like” this. So sorry for you, kitties, and Aunt Jean. I hope you get some rest, Pear feels better, and things get better for you and yours. Hugs!

  4. I had two cats (brothers) who both had UTI problems and it was suggested that the cat food (I bought what I thought was a good brand) had a lot of mineral residues that collected in their urethras. It was an ongoing and expensive condition for the poor little critters.

  5. Sorry to hear 2017 hasn’t started out so well for you and the cats, Luanne. Continued prayers for your Aunt Jean.

  6. Hope things are getting better Luanne. I hate to think what our vet bills will be like as our four cats age.

  7. Will do. I really wish it was better for all involved.
    Lovely photo, nice find 🙂

  8. I am so sorry about your cats. We adopted a new cat on Friday and by Saturday morning there was bloody urine all over the floor. She’s doing well now but it was a roller coaster ride for a while. Getting sick on a Saturday morning is never a good thing.

    • I visited for a sec and saw pretty new kitty’s pic. What a scary thing. What is wrong with her?! Where did you get her? How old is she? You have bookends now :)!

      • She has bloody urine because of crystals. So how do you get a cat to drink more water. She’s maybe 2 to 4. I’ll write about her. It’s been a ride.

        • Oh poor baby. They must be painful. More water? hahaha They do sell broth for cats now. It doesn’t have onion and garlic like human broth/

          • I tried FF Broths and she turned up her nose. I just purchased baby food meat to see if I can get her to eat wet with the hope of switching her to a good wet cat food. Can’t tell if it’s painful. She’s always purring and playing. With a damaged eye she may be used to discomfort.

  9. Thinking of your Aunt Jean with love and I hope your poor cats get better soon. Glad you have your Mama there with you.

  10. That sounds quite stressful, both for you and for your cats. A UTI can be a non-obvious diagnosis in a human, but it must be much more difficult to diagnose in a cat, where the cognitive symptoms might not be as obvious.

  11. What an awful time all round.

  12. Awwww, so sorry you’re having to go through all this. Hugs!

  13. Oh no sorry to hear that 🙁

  14. Oh, no! Lots of prayers for *everyone*! I hope you have a good visit with your mom and that she brought lots of wine. 😉

  15. So sorry to hear about the cat difficulties! Prayers for all of them and for you too, dear friend! Glad that your mom is with you.

  16. Luanne, poor Pear Blossom and Felix!
Prayers for your dear Aunt Jean are still on my list! Hoping it is peaceful and floating on candy cotton clouds with just the sweetest memories on her mind. <3
The new year inauguration is on and I am half barfing. Just cringing at the thought!
The elegant exit of my favorite president and wife was stupendous and full of grace. The stark contrast definitely noticeable. Take it easy and be peaceful, dear Michigan friend. 🙂 xo

  17. Thinking of you, Aunt Jean and the kitties Luanne, hoping for better things for you in the coming months.
