The Heat is On in Arizona

The heat is up again in Arizona, but that just brings the birds out more as they scramble for water. The gardener has a fountain obsession, so we have plenty of water for these guys.

Here’s the little fountain with the little birds.

And here’s the big fountain with the big bird–in this case a roadrunner.

It’s labor day, and I am going to take a nap today. After all, I wrote a poem and babysat my daughter’s cat this week. Love and hugs and all!

  1. Great idea, Luanne. It’s time to take a rest this weekend. Your birds are certainly grateful for your water fountains! I hope all’s well, too.

    • Yes, they are! They also seemed less likely to fly or scoot away so quickly, as if they were claiming the fountain and not going to leave until they absolutely had to.

  2. Happy Labor Day!

  3. Amy

    Stay cool!

  4. Water is precious for birds! Have a great nap. I may join you.

  5. We have a small fountain and it’s fun to watch the birds bathe in it. A nap sounds like a lovely idea. You deserve it!

    • I do even if I say so myself LOL. Haven’t done it yet. But I plan to this afternoon!
Fountains are wonderful for the birds. The gardener puts a lot of work into cleaning the leaves and stuff out of the fountains, keeping them nice.

  6. Hope you’re feeling better now, after that flu shot.

  7. You certainly deserve a nap, Luanne.

  8. Hope you had a good nap! 😀 Nice fountains and birds!
I’ve been seeing friends in the west posting about the heat there.

    • The heat is coming down. And I got no nap yesterday. I had to work after all. So grumpy about it. Hope your weather is pleasant!

  9. My son is here from Arizona and the day he and his S.O. got here, there temps went up and are staying up till the day they leave. What does that say? I haven’t had a nap since they got here and I’m getting cranky and tired. My son’s nickname was Roadrunner but I’ve barely been able to see the bird running by much less get such a great shot of one.

    • This roadrunner was so thirsty. It’s the first time I’ve seen one standing there for so long. He looks a little bedraggled, too, I think, but maybe they always are ;).
Your son must be gone now because our temps are headed down FINALLY. So grateful for that!
So that nap of mine? I never got it! I ended up having to work instead. Grrr.

      • Same here re the nap. ;( Son heads home Friday a.m. Autumn follows as they leave. 🙂

        • I never got mine that day, but I did a couple of days later–how ridiculous is that?! Today might be a good day for a nap, too . . . hmm.
Did you hear about Pauline’s passing? I am overcome with grief. I am working on a post for tomorrow, but will probably go with an “understated” post as I feel drained by this on top of the pandemic.

          • I wrote about Pauline on my post yesterday. She is family to us. She’s a year and 3 days younger than me. Devastated was what I felt. I am shocked and still processing. I told our friend Alys that she wasn’t supposed to go first.

  10. I love your bird photos! I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of a roadrunner before. A nap was very much on my mind today as I kept nodding off while grading assignments. Brava for writing a poem this week!

  11. Huh! Never seen a roadrunner. Had no idea they were a real bird. Thought it was just a Disney cartoon character, beep-beep.

    • Hehehe. Such a great character Roadrunner was, too. A real match for Wile E. Coyote. They are Looney Tunes characters :). Yup, real birds that run past our window really fast!!!! So this was special to have him stand there and allow photos to be taken.

  12. Love, love, love the roadrunner! <3 Happy napping. 🙂

  13. It’s hot here too on the Texas Gulf Coast, but we had a thunderstorm this morning. We needed it.

  14. Val

The birds must be ultra-happy in such hot weather to have something to drink when they want it. 🙂

I just watched a couple of videos of roadrunners, and it occurred to me I’d never seen the real bird, only the animated one!

    • By the responses here i am thinking you are in the majority about roadrunners! They are very cute in their shape and how they are always so busy running past.

  15. It’s great that you have a selection of fountains! Hope you enjoyed your nap.

  16. How lovely! I enjoy when the birds go to our garden fountain to sip water too.
