  1. Grandmas are usually wonderful people. They can afford to be more relaxed than mothers.

  2. I had a wonderful Grandmother. She was so kind and radiated peace.

  3. I didn’t know either grandmother. One was gone when I was born and I was 3 when the other died. I have no memory of her. I missed the whole grandparent experience.

    • I’m so sorry, Kate. I feel as if grandmothers can be a supplement to a child’s life, but also if they are lacking a parent or the parent is lacking something the child needs they can make up for that in part. You probably had your share of adults, though, with older siblings?

      • Lots of aunts and uncles and it was a close family when I was young. Actually I grew up mostly with adults. I was a reader and didn’t fit in with the neighborhood kids. To this day I don’t relate to kids well.

        • I understand. I used to go through phases. There would be the hole myself up in the house and don’t answer the door, reading, phase. Then there were the times I didn’t want to stop playing and would be back out next morning. But when I didn’t want to go out it was clear the other kids did NOT get it.

  4. Both of my grandmothers were “difficult,” shall we say, although I loved them. Congratulations on the publication of your story! Clicking over to read it.

  5. This excellent story is a touching tribute with a fine final sentence

  6. Luanne, this was a wonderful story!

  7. Such a touching story, Luanne! You were so lucky to have a grandmother like that. And, yes, we all could be such shits when we were young.
