The big news is that I started doing poetry consultations with two clients. I’ve been enjoying their work so much, as well as the analytical process that goes into critiquing and commenting on their poems.
I hope to get the particulars up on my website before too long. In the meantime, if you think you might be interested in getting feedback on your work, feel free to email me at email@example.com for the details. I will work with beginners or seasoned poets. **UPDATE: You can find my fees listed on this page of my website: POETRY CONSULTING
To give an idea of my credentials for providing insight about your work, here is a brief bio. I have an MFA in poetry and fiction from Western Michigan University, a PhD in literature (analysis–specialty poetry) from the University of California, Riverside, and a certificate in creative nonfiction from Stanford University. I taught literature and writing for fifteen plus years at the university level and have published literary analyses and creative writing in journals and books for many years. I write poetry book reviews as a regular reviewer for Main Street Rag and other journals. I have two reviews forthcoming in MSR and one in Pleiades. My chapbook Kin Types (Finishing Line Press) was a finalist for the 2018 Eric Hoffer Award. My first poetry collection, Doll God, winner of the 2015 New Mexico-Arizona Book Award, was published by Aldrich Press. Beyond credentials, my strengths are literary analysis and a technical understanding of poetry. Additionally, I understand that the poem is yours and not mine, and that what I offer are suggestions, not the “only way.” There are a wealth of ways a poet may choose to revise. When I think it makes sense, I will advise about poets or poems to read–or journals to try for submissions.
Make it a good week for you and for others. Here is my Facebook profile pic this week.

Good luck with your new ventures, Luanne.
I’m with you against hate.
Thanks so much, Merril! It’s wonderful to work with other poets!
I smiled imaging you waving to a mirror to take the picture! So cute. xxoo
Haha, yes, I did feel kind of dorkish!
This all so enticing, I wish I were a poet so you could coach me! Lucky poets who find you! P.S. I love the photo.
Aw, that is so nice of you to say! Thank you re the pic. NO FILTER hahaha.
Good luck with your new venture Luanne, I’m sure it will be very rewarding.
Andrea, thank you! It is proving to be so. I had missed working with other poets and didn’t realize it!
I wish you the best with your new venture adventure 😉 Maybe I’ll even sign up although I don’t consider myself a poet. I love your photo.
Thank you, Marie! Oh, I would LOVE to work with you!!!! Thank you re the pic!
You are too kind, Luanne 🙂 You might change your mind when you see my poems … loll 😉
I highly doubt it! I just finished your short story “No More Tomorrows”! So good!!! I posted a review of the whole anthology at Goodreads and Amazon and singled out your piece! Also loved “Blue.”
Oh, thank you, Luanne! ❤️
I love both your photo and I want to stand together with you and your family against anti-Semitism in this century and every other hate-filled one.
Good luck with your consulting…I have a new book I’m trying to get done but after that one, I may try some poetry.
I am truly appalled at the attack on the synagogue, sickened at the political rhetoric that encourages such behavior. I am so sorry.
Thank you Sheila in every way. It’s been a shocking weekend, but hate has a way of growing when unchecked!
Oh, I would love to work with you!!! Good luck with your book, too!
I read with interest about your new venture as a poetry consult. It can’t be easy with the great variety existing today and free style poetry gaining ground. I might one day dare ask you for your opinion, meanwhile, let me wish you all success. Your credentials certainly are rock solid.
Miriam, thank you so much for your kindness! By all means, write to me if you decide you want more details on working with me. In the meantime, have a wonderful week.
Go Luanne!! Best wishes for just the right amount of work coming your way!
Pauline, thank you! I had to laugh at the “right amount of work.” You got that right! Don’t worry–I won’t take on more than I can handle comfortably. It would be fair to the poets or to me. Or the cats ;).
I was thinking mostly of the cats of course 🙂
Of COURSE you were! 🙂
Congrats on your newest endeavor, Luanne! How exciting. xo
Thanks so much, Rudri! I need to catch up with you on some stuff! xo
Great photo 🙂
I’m glad you’re doing the consulting! Of course you don’t take the poetry and put yourself into it, for that wouldn’t be the other poet’s poem at all!
LOL, well, true. You might be surprised how often somebody has tried to rewrite a poem of mine according to how he or she would write it. HAH!
That is not okay 🙁
Best wishes to you in this venture. It is so good to rediscover something pleasurable.
Thank you so much, Clare. It really is.
What a great thing to do, Luanne! Anyone would be fortunate to get your feedback. It’s nice to see your experience and education all in one paragraph! 🙂
Thanks so much, Carla. If you know anyone interested, please send him or her my way!
I will do that!
Poetry is so important and to help somebody writing that one special poem is beautiful work.
I’m with you against hate. And hate-speech.
Love the pic and the message!
Thank you, Cheryl! XO
