Holy moly. I actually videotaped myself reading from the opening of Scrap: Salvaging a Family.
Can’t stand seeing myself or hearing myself.
🙈🙉
I’m a little insecure about it, so feel free to “like” it on youtube ;).
It’s a little over 2 minutes long. Thanks for watching.

Luanne, I think this is wonderfully brave. Reading our own work aloud, especially something as personal as Scrap: Salvaging a Family, can feel very vulnerable. What I saw was not nervousness but courage and authenticity. Congratulations on taking that step and sharing your story in your own voice.
Oh thank you so much, Rebecca. It means a lot coming to you because you are so experienced on camera and in recording your voice!!!
I always take a big breath and then take the leap, Luanne. You just made my day with your reading!!!
Aw you are so sweet!
🤗🤗🤗
Luanne, you did really well. So much braver than I could ever be. Very interesting content too. Good job!
Thank you so much, Anneli. It’s amazing how much work goes into just a little clip like this. At least concentrating on that gave me something to focus on other than my anxiety.
You’re way ahead of me. I wouldn’t know how to do that.
I couldn’t do it without a ring tripod that I got years ago for family pix. You put your phone in the middle of the ring which has a light if you need it. Then you position it to take pix. I don’t bother with the remote. I just cut from the beginning and the end to accommodate the moving between seat and camera.
I’m sure it takes a lot of practice to get it right. You did well!
I want to hear you read the whole book. Is this asking too much?
Hahaha, yes! I would love to do an audio book, but my mouth would be so dry that I don’t think I could do it.
You managed it well, with increasing momentum as you relaxed into it
Thanks so much, Derrick. I don’t know if I ever relaxed, but I think I know what you mean ;)!
I don’t know why, but I get Syliva Plath when you read. I thought it was wonderful.
Interesting. “Daddy. You do not do, you do not do any more, black shoe, in which I have lived like a foot.”
Brave of you to take the leap, Luanne. I hate seeing myself on camera, too. I agree with Derrick.
Well done!
Thank you so much, Merril. And thank you for telling me that about camera. I don’t think anybody who doesn’t feel that way could really understand. It feels like a horror. And maybe my voice even more so.
It was wonderful hearing your voice!
Hah, thank you so much, Kate! Can’t wait for your video . . . ;).
Well done, Luanne. This is very difficult for introverts! 😝
Yes, Jennifer. Exactly!
You did a great job with the reading! You chose the perfect passage to read, too, to prompt readers to check out the book.
Thanks so much, Liz! I know you are a pro at this stuff!
You’re welcome, Luanne!
Nicely done, Luanne!
Thank you, Joy! Whew!
You did well.
Thank you so much!
You are far braver than I am—I could never do this without feeling so self-conscious! You did a great job.
Oh, I definitely feel/felt self-conscious hah.
Well done, Luanne. Like you, I cannot stand to hear my own voice. I’ve only managed a soundbite of my memoir.
My like and feedback are on YouTube. xx Gwen
Thanks, Gwen! Did you see my review of Louisa? It’s on another blog post, Amazon us, and Goodreads. I hope you like it. Are you on Bookbub? Should I post it there?
