Review of Kin Types in Latest Issue of Main Street Rag

Alice Osborn has reviewed my chapbook Kin Types for the new Winter 2019 issue of Main Street Rag.

I love how she calls the book a “labor of love.”

It’s a beautiful issue with fiction and poetry, an essay, and quite a few book reviews, and best yet, it’s only $6! Click this link.

Remember my kitty Tiger, star of The Bitch’s Tale? She has gotten a bit skinny, so I took her to the vet for bloodwork and urinalysis. Her kidney and liver values are now elevated, and she had to have an add-on test for pancreatitis. Please send positive vibes and prayers for Tiger that she just has slow aging issues and not a serious illness. I had thought Tiger was 14, but after recalculating and conferring with my son, we believe she is at least 15.

  1. Congrats, Luanne. I’m sure the recognition and positive comments feel good and make it seem worth the effort.

  2. Sending pozzies!

  3. What a delightful review of Kin Types! 🙂
I’m hoping Tiger feels God’s healing light and gets better soon.

  4. It’s always nice to hear kind words about your writing. Congrats. I’ll keep good thoughts for your kitty.

  5. Congrats on the review, Luanne! So nice when reviewers explicitly acknowledge your “labor of love.” And sending love and cat-friendly hugs to Tiger. Our Maxine’s blood work came back with elevated kidney values. She’s at least 15 (short story: she was adopted from a shelter in Miami in 2004. How she wound up in Tallahassee is an easy guess — student). I’m not surprised by the emergence of kidney disease, but I’m not happy. It’s very early stage so we’re going to try and slow the progression with prescription food. Still.
Hoping that Tiger is just getting old and not developing a serious disease. Either one is difficult to deal with but we never want to see our fur babies be in distress. xox

    • OMG, Tiger just did something so uncharacteristic. I almost had a heart attack. She climbed on a REALLY high ledge inside the house (it’s a loft up above the living room) and just hung on up there. Then she slipped as she was trying to get down and luckily fell FORWARD instead of backward. Why would she do that when she doesn’t even feel well???
I’m sorry about Maxine. Kidney disease in cats is becoming an epidemic, I think. What food are you giving her and does she like it?
      Thank you xoxoxo

      • Maybe climbing on that ledge was on Tiger’s bucket list 😉 Maybe she thought she could be alone up. If a cat lives long enough, organs start to fail. All of our cats who have died had some stage of kidney disease although it wasn’t always why we had to put them down. I’m not surprised Max is in very early stage since she’s probably older than 15. I haven’t picked up her food yet. We’ll start her on it later this week. She will have to like it 🙂 By the way, Junior is going in for a dental on Thursday and will likely have his remaining few teeth removed. Fun times 😉

        • Waiting to hear how Junior is doing! Very interesting thought about Tiger and the bucket list. Could be. My dad was that way. My daughter is also a big bucket lister. I sent you an email BTW.

  6. Congratulations, Luanne! I hope Tiger is feeling better soon.

  7. Congratulations, Luanne. Terrific review.

  8. Congrats on the review and hugs to Tiger.

  9. Always nice to get a good review. I hope your “Tiger” gets better, but she’s getting up there in years…. I know you take the best care of your cats.

  10. Wonderful! I’m going to buy this issue. Alice is an excellent poet, songwriter, teacher. She’s a Renaissance woman! She was one of my first writing teachers outside of the university. This is a great review, and I agree your books are a blessing!
You best believe Tiger is in my prayers, and I’m sending all the good vibes for good news. My kitties turn 16, 14, 12, and 7 this year. ❤️

    • Cheryl, first about Tiger. Thank you so much for the good vibes. I will be able to post an update Monday about her. You and I are in exactly the same boat with our cats and their ages!!!
Wow, re Alice. That is so exciting to hear what you say here! I feel blessed that she reviewed Kin Types, for sure!

  11. Congratulations, Luanne!
I hope Tiger is OK! Thinking good thoughts.

  12. Nothing lifts the spirits of a writer like favorable comments on their work!
Congrats, my friend…sending good thoughts for Tiger.

  13. Congratulations on the review, Luanne!
I am sorry your Tiger is poorly! I hope lots can be done for her. xxx

  14. Congratulations on the review Luanne! Sending lots of good thoughts Tiger’s way.

    • Andrea, thank you so much. Tiger is sitting right next to my hands right now. Even when she doesn’t feel up to par she still likes to try to bite my fingers when I type haha.

  15. We adopted an older cat in 2017. Daisy is 13+ right now. She’s got kidney disease, high blood pressure, and elevated liver levels. 🙁 I hope Tiger gets better soon!

    • Daisy does have a lot going on for her age, which is senior, but not elderly, if I remember the categories correctly! My best to sweet Daisy. Thanks for Tiger. We’re still not sure how serious it is.

  16. Congratulations!

  17. Best thoughts coming to Tiger!

  18. Nice review, Luanne. The collection seems to reach into people, as I know you hoped it would!

  19. Sending healthy thoughts for Tiger. (Who among us wants to find out we’re a year older than we thought?) And so happy for the review.
