We’re here at #TankaTuesday again! Colleen Chesebro’s prompt this week is to write an ekphrastic poem about this painting.

I am rushed for time, so I wrote a tanka since I feel familiar with the form.
This summer Sunday
lie upon the riverbank
and observe movements
of waterfowl and fishers,
neighbor’s herd and young lovers.
I have a creepy ekphrastic timed (one hour max) microfiction piece up at Visual Verse. If you like creepy in small doses, here is the link and the image that inspired the story:

Your poem goes perfectly with the photo! 🙂
Linda, thank you! I was imagining being the artist and then the writer capturing the scene. Such a magnificent painting!
Oh Luanne, you little devil, you with your Kindness of Strangers…I can picture you smiling as you wrote it!
LOL! hahaha. More and more, I enjoy writing evil ;).
Your tanka captures the essence of the painting, Luanne.
And congrats again on the VV piece!
Thank you and thank you, Merril!
You’re welcome! 😊
This is beautiful Luanne 💜💜💜
Thank you so much! Much appreciated.
😊🤗🤗🤗
The scene captured so well Luanne 💕
Thank you! 🙂 xo
You’ve written the perfect bucolic poem for the perfect bucolic painting. I took a certain satisfaction in the creepy microfiction piece. (Don’t tell anybody.)
Thank you so much on both counts haha. I think the latter is a generational thing ;).
You’re welcome. The latter could very well be!
Hahaha.
Did you write that poem in a hurry? It looks perfect to me, Luanne. <3
I did write it in a hurry! But I have been practicing so much the last few years that I am pretty fast. The Verse Virtual prompts–they give you an hour, but it takes me 20 minutes. Thanks, Miriam!
The story behind the pic was kinda funny, you devil.
Hehehehehehe.
I love this painting and your words make it even more special! Your story was so creepy! I loved it!
Thank you, Colleen!! haha, creepy is good ;). I feel like it’s a story for our generation hah!
I enjoyed the invitation of the tanka. I also enjoyed you VV story. That’s why I don’t trust *anyone*! You just never know…
Yes, “invitation”–well put!!!Haha, no, we can’t trust anyone. They might be a crazy old lady who is sick of bratty kids ;).
Beautiful tanka
Thank you so much!!!
Enjoyed the poem and the creepy story both!
Thanks, Eilene. I am very partial to the creepy story ;).
Great poem, Luanne! And I loved your creepy story. Your character’s voice was brilliant!

Yvette, thank you so much. So happy you enjoyed both! Did I ever tell you Yvette was my name in French class in 7th and 8th grades?
No, you didn’t. How cool! 🙂
A lovely tranquil poem to go with the painting and your creepy poem is deliciously wicked 🙂
Andrea, thank you so much! Haha, so glad you appreciated the creep factor ;).
Hi Luanne, the piece was very good. Lovely and creepy. The poem was quite a contrast, very pretty.
Thank you, Robbie! I like exploring all avenues of life ;)!
The tanka is a perfect fit with the painting, and The Kindness of Strangers … indeed, quite creepy. I like creepy 😉 Congrats on the publication!
Thank you. I am loving writing micros!
Luanne,
you may have written this quickly, but it came out so very lovely!

David
David, thank you so much! I am so pleased that you like it.
