Miss Alma Milligan Visits MacQueen’s Quinterly

Have you ever met someone like Miss Alma Milligan? My high school history teacher was the inspiration. Though she grew up in the city and was sophisticated and traveled all summer every summer, the basic nature and character of my teacher found its way into this character.

Huge thanks to Editor-in-Chief Clare MacQueen for publishing this monologue micro. Feel free to use this micro for your acting auditions, just give me credit when appropriate :).

  1. Good one!! Congratulations!

  2. I love it. I could deliver it quite well with my accent! We had chickens growing up. Free eggs, wish we had them now.

    • Oh, I wish we did, too. Those farm eggs are so good! But I have all I can do taking care of four cats without taking care of chickens, too, especially with our predators! Haha, I would love to hear your monologue audition!

  3. Oh! This is so delectable, Luanne!

  4. Congratulations, Luanne! I love the role of chickens in the classroom. Alma’s explanation of her chicken pedagogy makes perfect sense to me.

  5. What a story! I love Miss Alma. I wish she had been my teacher!

    • She’s a wonderful teacher :). And so was the inspiration for her, although by the time the gardener and I had her for history she was considered old-fashioned. Thanks, Marie!

  6. Awesome story! I really enjoyed this one! 🙂

  7. My goodness, Miss Alma was a gem. Chickens at school for readers – brilliant. Today libraries have dogs for children to read to, but the sign-up list is very long.
