It’s fun that a wonderful new lit mag called Thimble has published my poem “Behold the Needle.” Isn’t that a perfect fit, though?
BEHOLD THE NEEDLE
I hope that it speaks to people who have lived in more than one place and to those of us who feel a part of the place that they live. How much a part of you is your hometown, the state or the country you have made your own, or all the places you ever touched down in?
Congratulations on you new publication! I was trying to reach your poem to read it but ended up with “oh, snap!” three times.
But I will get there some day.
Incidentally, that map is ….odd…. No Kzoo. And look at 131….

Congratulations, Luanne! This is an exceptional poem on a topic that touches many of us. I can relate to the words and thoughts behind the poem and your final lines were a ‘lightbulb’ moment for me:
‘…but the way needles are
is that they travel in and out,
knotting as they move about.’

Congratulations, a perfect fit, how could they not publish it?! It’s a beautiful, evocative poem about place, something that is very important to me.
Yes, I can see that place is very important to you by your gorgeous writings about it. It seems to me that only some writers are inspired by place (being perhaps more inspired by characters or plots), but place is where everything springs from. Without place we wouldn’t have the same characters or plots. I know some might disagree with that comment (put a Shakespearean plot into any setting does seem to work, after all), but for me place comes first.
