Cover Reveal of Kin Types

Finishing Line Press has revealed the new cover of my chapbook Kin Types. They put it on their website with my headshot, taken by my friend Renee Rivers.

PRE-ORDER HERE

Release date: June 23

A little background on the cover image: this is a tintype from my family collection. It was handpainted, and the jewelry was painted in gold leaf. We don’t know exactly who the photograph is of, but believe it is of the Remine (Remijinse) branch of the family. My great-great-great-grandmother was Johanna Remijinse De Korne, born in Kapelle, Netherlands. I love how the Dutch spelling conjures up the word “reminisce.”

  1. 1. Love the hat.
    2. You KNOW I’ll be ordering your book. I want the complete collected works!
    3. Crazy good title!

    • Thank you for #1, 2, and 3!!! The hat is my go-to hat. Thank you thank you thank you for your support, Susanne! And thank you for liking my punny title!

  2. Love the cover and that’s a great shot of you. There’s a resemblance of sorts.

  3. You look great, Luanne! I love the cover too…the hand-painted jewelry really pops.

    • That’s what I think! In fact, it’s a big part of the reason I chose that tintype, although in truth I don’t have too many tintypes (and this is the only painted one)–most are photographs from the turn of that last century. But I’m so drawn to that gold paint and her eyes, too.

    • Oops, I didn’t mean that I think I look great, too. Hahaha, Renee did a wonderful job, but I know my limitations and HATE photos of myself.

Luanne, this is very exciting – CONGRATS!!  And I LOVE this photo of you!!   Hugs, Jody

    • Now here is another county (almost literally) heard from! How are you?! I have thought about you so often in the last few months! xoxoxo

  5. Great cover! Ordered a copy earlier this week – looking forward to publication and reading. -C.D.

  6. Wonderful! Women of note, both sides 🙂

    • I like it, too, Anneli! My job was to give the publisher the art image I wanted and then they made up the cover. I am so happy with what they did.

  7. Beautiful – both the cover and you!!

  8. What an attractive cover and lovely author photo! I can hardly wait to read “Kin Types”!!

  9. I thought I saw a resemblance too. Wonderful images, both.

  10. Congratulations again, Luanne. I love how in the photo, it looks like your ancestor is looking at you. You remind me of Joni Mitchell in this photo. 🙂

    • Oh man, that Joni Mitchell thing cracks me up. As I mentioned to Marie below, I am always being told I look like somebody else! Maybe I am a blank slate or some kind of mirror? Interesting about the ancestor looking at me. Hmmm

I’ve pre-ordered Luanne Castle’s newest chapbook of poetry and more. How about you???????

  12. Merril nailed it! I thought you looked familiar and, indeed, with the hat you bare a resemblance to Joni Mitchell 🙂

    • LOL, I have been told I look like a lot of people in my day, but never Joni! I think it goes by decade. It’s been Mia Farrow, Sissy Spacek, Greta Garbo, the Morton Salt girl, Annie Hall (last two not even real people), even Barbi Benton and an anonymous bra model on TV when I was young hahaha. My daughter thinks that in my childhood photos I looked like Hayley Mills. Kind of scary to look like that many people, really. There must be some meaning there.

      • Oh, my, I guess some of it just depends on the moment. I was once told I looked like Katherine Ross from the Butch Cassidy movie with Paul Newman and Robert Redford (this was decades ago and I was getting a coffee from a kiosk on the way to work). Another time, it was Brooke Shields. These days I just get confused with my friends because we all have gray hair 😉

        • LOL, I had to laugh at that last sentence! So funny! I guess the older we get the more we look like each other! Katherine Ross was so pretty. Remember when every girl wanted to be her? And Brooke Shields is gorgeous. So those are fabulous lookalikes! But the more different ones people come up with the more suspicious it is to me. There is nothing that is the same about the ones I have gotten over the years.

  13. Congratulations. Luanne. Looks super.

  14. Congratulations Luanne.

  15. An excellent portrait. Congratulations

  16. Congrats, Luanne! It looks great. Love the picture. xo

I did it. I just pre-ordered a copy of “Kin Types,” Luanne Castle’s new poetry book, which releases this summer. I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy. I imagine sitting by the beach in the Alaska twilight and reading as waves crash the shore, the dog by my side. Because, really, is there any other way to read poetry?

  18. Very exciting Luanne, can’t wait to get my copy 🙂

  19. It’s always so exciting to see the cover – and this one is fabulous!! Love the picture of you as well…ordered my copy this week and will be thrilled to get it!! You know I wish you well…

    • Thanks, Sheila! I am really happy with the cover. I knew I wanted that image on the cover, and the publisher worked well with it, I think.

  20. Great cover, Luanne! Congratulations and best of luck with your latest book!

  21. Yes, I ordered mine too! Can’t wait to get it. 🙂

  22. Wow, Luanne! Great pictures all around. I can certainly see a resemblance there. Congratulations, by the way! 😀
