Poem Up at Dovecote

This very sweet fairly new literary journal Dovecote has published one of my poems in their 3rd issue.  Don’t you think the journal name is beautiful? A dovecote is a house for doves. I found this photo of a very old dovecote in the Utrecht province of the Netherlands on my old friend Wikipedia.

A place to house birds. A bird is often a metaphor for a poet. Because of the singing, ya know?

Well, oddly, my poem is not a singing sort of poem, but more of a shouting one. Here’s a different look at poetry than many people, especially people who don’t read a lot of poetry, hold.

POETRY IS A BIG NOISE

  1. Congratulations, Luanne. The poem may have been a big noise, but it flowed melodiously. Our early twentieth century Doves Press made a significant contribution to the Arts and Crafts movement.

  2. Beautiful poem, Luanne. Congratulations on the Dovecote publication.

  3. Congratulations! I’ve always loved doves and I loved your poem, too!

    • Thank you, Jill!! I love them, too. I’ll admit–I even love pigeons. One of my favorite kids books is the old classic Gay-Neck, about a pigeon!

  4. Congratulations, Luanne. Wonderful poem–there are certainly many types of “big noise.” I love the journal’s name, too–and doves (and pigeons). 🙂

    • Are you on Nextdoor app? On mine the other day a lady posted that she found a beautiful and unusual dove that appeared to have some issue. She took it to Liberty Wildlife. It reminded me of years ago when we had two different pigeon issues here, but we had the pigeon lady nearby who took care of them.
      Thanks, Merril!

  5. I’m really happy for you, Luanne. Well-deserved success. Love the picture of the dovecote, and I agree, it’s a beautiful name for the journal. Now the journal is even more beautiful because it has your poem in it.

  6. Congrats, Luanne! Lovely poem!!!

  7. Congratulations, Luanne! Your writing is beautiful!

  8. Congratulations on the publication Luanne. It’s a big, bold and, yes, noisy poem (!) especially for such a delicately-named journal 🙂

  9. Congrats, you!! I like a poem that makes a lot of noise 😉

  10. I liked the banquet metaphor at the end – the whole poem is a delight. Yes, make noise! Have an impact!!

  11. Congratulations, Luanne – the poem is beautiful – so many apt images…

  12. Congratulations, Luanne! I do love your noisy poem!

  13. Congratulations, my friend! No retreat. No surrender.

  14. Congratulations, Luanne. What a delightful poem. I envy your talent with language. 🙂
